Making Corrections When You Slip Up

Slipping up is inevitable. No matter how good you think you are… you WILL slip up. This is one of the most important facts that you must come to terms with.
Mistakes are part and parcel of the weight loss journey. You can’t avoid them. In fact, you must make them to know what changes to make in order to progress.
  • How it affects your diet
One of the reasons so many people fail with their diets is because they aim for perfection. When you’re cleaning up your diet, not only will you be struggling to break old habits, but you’ll also be fighting your hormones.

If you have a sugar addiction, you’ll constantly crave sweet foods. It’ll be extremely difficult to resist the temptations all the time. Most of us burn glucose for fuel. So, when you cut your carbs and sugar, the body craves for glucose (sugar).
It will require a lot of determination to stay away from the detrimental foods. Sooner or later, you will slip up and eat something you shouldn’t. It ALWAYS happens.
What do you do then?Do you toss the entire diet and binge like crazy? Do you quit the diet and assume that you’re destined to be fat?
It may sound ridiculous to throw in the towel for one slip up… and yet, thousands of people do it daily. They feel like they’ve failed themselves and let themselves down. So, they throw caution to the wind and gorge on more food since they already made a mistake.
This is akin to sitting for a test and not knowing how to answer one question. So, you answer all the remaining questions wrongly and fail the entire test. It doesn’t make sense. So why do people do it?
The answer is simple. They’re aiming for perfection. They believe that they can only achieve weight loss if their efforts are perfect. Nothing could be further from the truth.
If you can aim for 80 percent compliance with your diet, you’ll still see positive results. You have 20 percent leeway to make a few mistakes.
When you do eat something you shouldn’t, do not feel guilty about it. Acknowledge that you made a mistake, enjoy what you’re eating and STOP after that. Do not make it worse by totally letting your diet slide.
Correct yourself and get back on track.
  • Skipping workouts
The same applies to your workout sessions. If you miss a workout on one day, acknowledge the mistake and make sure you go the next day.
If you don’t perform at the gym as well as you normally do on one particular day, do not assume that you’re getting weaker or your efforts are pointless. You may just be having a day where you’re slightly off. It happens to the best athletes. DO not quit.
Go back the next day and give it your best.
The key to succeeding is to keep making corrections and moving forward. Avoid the curse of perfectionism. Mistakes can only cause temporary setbacks, but quitting is permanent.
Aim for 80 to 90 percent compliance with your training and diet and you’ll be fit and lean in a couple of months. The road to success is always a winding one. Stay on the road and you’ll get there.
