The events of the past month, and what we are all experiencing for the foreseeable future together, is shedding new light on this word. I'm gaining a deeper appreciation for the word Priority and I'm getting deeply curious as I watch a wide range of people's priorities unfold day by day. Life is taking a dramatic turn, and when this happens, your priorities are naturally going to be called into question. Even things that you may have thought were absolutely foundational to your life can suddenly take a back seat to other more important tasks. I know this because it is happening to me my clients I connect with on a daily basis. The first emotional wave that hits during the shelter in place mandate has been rough. It has been sending me through ups and downs that rattle me daily. At times it almost makes me feel paralyzed and I can't do anything.
What has helped me is to schedule out the day before everything I am going to do that day including waking up, showering, working out, napping, writing a blog, creating a workout video. Keeping a routine can help with anxiety and focus. What also helps......extra support. That support can be from a therapist, a pastor, and even a personal trainer. I used a personal trainer. Hey even a trainer needs a trainer. I look forward to my video training sessions with my trainer. I know the reason why my 1:1 clients were quick to switch to video sessions instead of just quitting is because of the support it provides. Being seen and heard is very powerful.
In regards to fitness I want you to ask yourself these questions:
Why do I exercise?
In the absence of a gym or good equipment, what do I really connect to about fitness?
Why is quality food important to me?
When confined to my home, what limitations do I start to feel to nourishing myself properly?
Why do I want to get good sleep each night?
Why have I followed thoughtful training programs in the past?
If nobody was to ever see my body again, would I care about looking a certain way?
Everyone has his or her own motivation to work out. Lose weight, feel better about yourself, you want to live healthier or have more muscles. Think about what your motivations is before the Pandemic and now during it. Has it changed. It should have. For many it is about staying sane and healthy so not end up in the hospital with diabetes or some other unhealthy lifestyle disease.
We can't control what happens outside, but we can take hold of our daily movement and nourishment, as well as our outlook on life.
